Field Recordings Wine

Field Recordings is 35-year old winemaker Andrew Jones’ personal catalog of the people and places he values most. Spending his days as a vine nursery fieldman planning and planting vineyards for farmers all over California, Andrew is sometimes offered small lots of their best fruit on the side. Having stood in just about every vineyard on the Central Coast, he has a keen eye for diamonds in the rough: sites that are unknown or under-appreciated but hold enormous untapped potential. As friendships are made and opportunities are embraced, Andrew produces small quantities of soulful wine from these unusual, quiet vineyards.

Taken from photographs of starlings in flight, the artwork for the Field Recordings label documents natural, un-staged patterns that can never be repeated nor replicated. In the same way, each bottle of Field Recordings Wine captures the inimitable circumstances of each vineyard, vintage, and friendship that made it possible.

Flying Goat Cellars

Flying Goat Cellars is a study in contrasts. A humorous name and a serious lineup of wines. A startup garagiste mode and 35+ years of winemaking experience. A caricature of a leaping goat on a premium wine bottle. A mission of merriment and a dedicated commitment to professionalism. The result is exactly what owner/winemaker Norman Yost set out to do when he established Flying Goat Cellars in 2000.

Flying Goat Cellars produces about 2,500 cases a year and includes three labels: Flying Goat, Goat Bubbles and YNOT. Flying Goat focuses on vineyard designated Pinot Noirs and Pinot Gris. Goat Bubbles offers five vineyard designated sparkling wines: Rosé, Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, Crémant and Brut Cuvée, all made in the traditional méthode champenoise with the secondary fermentation in the bottle. YNOT is Pinot Noir blended from the finest of Santa Barbara County vineyards.

Fossil Point

Fossil Point

Fossil Point Pays Tribute to the bond between sea and vine. Our vineyard sources are all in close proximity to the cold Pacific Ocean, and are influenced by the seasonal flow of its surface currents, sea breezes and fog. Even the soils are made up of coarse sand and calcareous shales left behind when much of the Central Coast was lifted up out of the ancient seas. Fossil Point is a rugged headland with sweeping views of the coastline from Port San Luis to the northern Santa Barbara county dunes.

Liberty School

Varietally on target, reliable year after year, Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cuvee consistently over-deliver value wines of outstanding quality. The Hope family has been making Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon since 1990. In 1996, when the Hopes established Treana Winery, the Liberty School brand officially became part of Hope Family Wines. Liberty School wines are made in a traditional style. Fruit driven, they are crafted to reflect true varietal character. The wines are barrel-aged, employing very little new oak. Oak is used as a building component rather than a flavoring agent.

A big brand, made by a small, close family, Liberty School is the home of delicious wines that are easy to enjoy.

Mattina Fiore Wines

Scott & Andrea Williams’s adventure in wine began many years ago in San Luis Obispo California where they first met as college students. As a husband and wife team, with their four sons, they have traversed the gamut of the premium wine business on the Central Coast for nearly 30 years as the purveyors of Depalo & Sons, Specialty Provisions, Spirits and Fine Wines. Over that time, they have had the fortune to refine alliances with the Central Coast’s finest winemaking families and grape growers. They started Mattina Fiore Wines in 2011 to deliver elegantly crafted wines worthy of San Luis Obispo’s history of exquisite winemaking from its captivating premium vineyards. Mattina Fiore Winery is a celebration of this passion and a tribute to their rich ancestry.

Ryan Cochrane Wines

An up-and-coming artisan winemaker focused on vineyard-designate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

With grapes sourced from the best vineyards he can get his hands on, Ryan Cochrane produces extremely limited quantities of vineyard designated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Santa Barbara County on California’s Central Coast. Although relatively new to the wine business, Ryan Cochrane has already established himself as an award-winning winemaker with a loyal following of his Burgundian-style wines.

After earning a degree in marketing from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, Ryan Cochrane moved to San Francisco where he launched a successful career in marketing and advertising. Over the years, Ryan worked as an art director, a freelance copywriter, and a creative director for a number of marketing communications companies. Today, he still maintains his ‘day job’ in advertising, but escapes to the Central Coast every chance he gets to work on his name sake winery, Ryan Cochrane Wines.

Ryan had always dreamed about making wine, and one foggy morning in July 2009, he decided to stop dreaming about it and actually do it. The advertising agency he was working at had just imploded and he had started freelancing, but it was a bad time for work in San Francisco. Ryan decided that now was the perfect time to experiment with winemaking. He contacted Roger Nichols at RN Estate in Paso Robles and asked to be an intern. Ryan was impressed, not only with Roger Nichols’ beautiful wines, but with his ‘DEY’ (do everything yourself ) approach to his business. That year, Ryan helped in all phases of RN Estate’s harvest, from vineyard work in the spring to pressing and barreling in the fall.

In 2010, Ryan came back to RN Estate and made one barrel of […]
